Composite gelcoat is a specialized surface coating for fiber-reinforced composite materials (such as those reinforced with fiberglass or other fibers). By definition, "gelcoat is a material used to provide a high-quality finish on the visible surface of a fiber-reinforced composite."

Composite gelcoats are typically thermosetting resins—such as unsaturated polyester, epoxy, or vinyl ester—applied to the mold or the product either before or during the molding of the main component.

The gelcoat layer serves not only an aesthetic purpose (providing color, gloss, and uniformity) but also protects the underlying composite structure from UV radiation, moisture, chemicals, and abrasion.
