Pink Silicagel Desiccant Packet (CR)
Detailed description
A desiccant is a moisture-sensitive substance capable of inducing or maintaining a dry state in its immediate vicinity. Commonly encountered desiccants come in pre-packaged forms and consist of solid materials that can adsorb water. They are frequently found in food products to help maintain crispness. In industrial applications, desiccants are widely used to control moisture levels in gas streams.
Regarding classification, desiccants are chemically stable and inert substances; several such materials with these properties have been identified and are in widespread use. The most common desiccant is silica—a white, inert, non-toxic solid that is insoluble in water—with tens of thousands of tons produced annually for this purpose. Other examples of desiccants include activated carbon, calcium sulfate (Drierite), calcium chloride, and molecular sieves (typically zeolites).
